My photographic journey began relatively late in life.  Growing up, I had friends who were very into film photography but I had absolutely no interest.  Much later on, once it went digital, I got very interested.  I loved the idea that you could experiment with camera settings and see the results immediately, rather than having to wait to get the film processed.

Although very interested in the early 2000’s, I didn’t have the time to pursue photography until I retired in 2013.  I was an aerospace scientist and the last 18 years of my career were exclusively devoted to developing new technology used in the latest generation of GPS satellites.  My job was very demanding, but making improvements to a system that was, and still is, being used world-wide was extremely satisfying.  I now get similar pleasure from photographing beautiful and/or unique subjects. I also enjoy processing the images, especially when a so-so picture transitions into an artful photograph.

My main inspiration is the Australian photographer, Peter Lik, whom many consider to be the world’s greatest landscape photographer.  Before COVID I was traveling to Las Vegas 3 or 4 times a year to play in poker tournaments (my other passion) and one of my favorite pastimes between tournaments was to visit one of his galleries and gaze, in awe, at his latest works.

I’ve been a member of the Ridgewood Camera Club, in NJ, since 2015, but since moving to PA in 2021, I no longer attend meetings.  However, I do still join them on some photo trips, if they are not too far away.  As a new member, I’m looking forward to meeting all of the other members of the Churchville Photography Club and participating in some of the club activities.

I shoot with a Sony A7 R2 mirrorless, full frame camera and a variety of Sony lenses, and I mainly shoot landscapes and cityscapes.  I also like finding good locations for moon rise and sunset shots and planning the shoot with Photo Pills.  Lightroom and Photoshop are my go-to processing programs, but I also use Topaz Sharpen AI, Topaz Denoise AI. And Topaz Megapixel AI on occasion.

Members, feel free to log in and comment (and log out)!  It's always nice to hear from those who view your work.

And if you have a trip you'd like to take with company, we can send out an invite to the group by notifying Rick Kobylinski, Janet Hickey or Dianne Rose.  We will be happy to send emails to our members and you can also post it on the Churchville Photography Club Facebook page.  (Note that not all of our members belong to Facebook, hence the need for emails.)
