The image above shows Anna Marie with her husband, Nick. They are new members to the Churchville Photography Club. Anna Marie has taken the plunge and provided her gallery of images for our March 2021 SPOTLIGHT. (Maybe Nick will be next? We do have April and May open for any new member to share their experience and journey into capturing the beauty in our world.)

"One of the key contributing factors of who I am is that I am the 8th of 12 children. So often in life, I have found that either the opinion of my siblings or the experiences from growing up in a large family influenced both big and small decisions in my life. My beginnings into photography were one of those decisions.
While I was in my early 40’s, I had siblings readying themselves for retirement. I kept hearing the same sage advice – develop a hobby before your kids leave and while you’re getting ready for retirement. I thought this was wonderfully wise advice. So, I bought myself a used Nikon D60 from a forensic photographer along with a Tamron 16-300 lens.
Given that I have 3 daughters who were high school athletes, I spent countless hours as a spectator. I took the camera to every sporting event and took excessive photos. Needless to say, two things became true; I quickly became the team(s) photographer and I quickly learned to take action shots. Both kids and parents loved the photographs, but I knew (and was not satisfied with) that I was a one trick pony.
All 3 of my girls went onto become college athletes which gave me more practice in being a one trick pony. It also gave me more time so I decided to evolve my skills. I am somewhat of a formal learner, so I enrolled in Community College of Philadelphia’s photography program. This is where I developed most of my photography capability. And, I am happy that I listened to my siblings wise advice and developed a hobby in photography!
The next step in the journey for me was to apply self-discipline around my photography outside of the school setting. I joined the photography club as part of that plan. The socialization, while I would love it to be in person, has been wonderful. I enjoy the structure of the guest speakers, the photography evaluations and the interaction. I feel inspired by all of your works of art! So, thank you for that! I hope I can reciprocate.
My current equipment:
Sigma 24-70MM f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art Lens
Sigma 50 f/1.4 Art DG HSM Lens
Tamron 70-200MM f/2.8 Di VC USD G2
Tamron 90 f/2.8 Di Macro VC USD
My personal goal is to put together a portfolio website. I am also mapping out a plan for a project that I want to label “Moonglow”. Using the Photopills app, I am hoping to get unique moon shots around New Jersey and Pennsylvania through 2021. I would welcome anyone to join me. There is always safety in numbers on night shoots.
I hope you enjoy some of my favorite shots."
