We have some excellent images to show you from Jacqui! She recently joined Churchville Photography Club in early May of 2025.
Jacqui, these are beautiful images. These results are a testament to your patience. That's something we learn when we're dealing with wildlife. That split second....it's elusive! So congratulations on these beautiful images. We can't wait to see more in the near future. Several new members have joined in scheduling their SPOTLIGHT and MEMBER GALLERY. Visit every month and learn more about their story into photography and enjoy their images.
Introducing Jacqueline Burke
"I am an amateur photographer and small animal veterinarian living in Perkiomenville, PA. I have loved animals all my life and decided to become a veterinarian at any early age. I had many pets while growing up, including goldfish, pet mice, a rabbit, dogs, and horses. My father was an accomplished amateur naturalist and he instilled in me a love for wild places and wild things as well as a love for travel.
After I graduated from veterinary school and began to get most of my student loans paid off, I began to travel to see wild animals. Initially I traveled with a group called Veterinary Expeditions, as I got continuing education credit on the trips and the trips were tax deductible because of this. On these trips, I saw others who had nice cameras and were getting nice photos of the animals that we were seeing and I wanted that for myself as well. I bought my first DSLR, a cropped frame Nikon, as a year-end present to myself in 2014 and my love of photography was born.
Since that time, I have continued to travel extensively and I have continued to refine my photographic skills. Initially I was content to obtain documentary style photos, but I have increasingly tried to be more artistic in what I create by paying more attention to lighting, trying panning or ICM shots, or unique viewpoints. I eventually switched to the OM
(formerly Olympus) system and love its light weight, low cost, and many computational features.
I began to compete my photos and enter gallery showings in late 2023. I have been rewarded by getting awards in the following contests, among others: North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), National Audubon Society, Nature’s Best, Wild Sojourns, Wyoming Magazine, Philadelphia Flower Show, Color Camera Club of Westchester, International Color Awards, Gallery 14, and of course Churchill Photography Club.
I was very honored to recently have my photo “Penguin Shower” get First Place and Best In Show in the Animal Division and Best in Show in my new club! While I continue to photograph primarily wildlife, I am striving to photograph other things and will enjoy lectures and contests with other topics.
I hope to retire within the next few years and will have to curtail my travel once I no longer have a steady income. I am also endeavoring to photograph wildlife at home. I photographed “Through Blossoms into "Spring” which won an Honorable Mention in the Animal division in the latest contest, while sitting on my loveseat with the window open, and am perhaps prouder of that than the winning penguin photo which was taken in the Falkland Islands. It is not absolutely essential to travel to photograph wildlife!
I live with my husband Chip, who recently retired from the pharmaceutical industry, as well as our Jack Russell Terrier Terra, cat Rosie, and horses Joani and Jay. While my horses are retired, I still enjoy the odd ride on friends’ horses. I also enjoy hiking, canoeing, and reading. I am looking forward to being as active a member of Churchville Photography Club as my schedule will allow."
