PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING – July 17th, 2023 – CNC 7pm

Hello CPC members,

Our planning meeting will be held on July 17th at the nature center's community room (third Monday of the month) at 7 PM. Depending on what comes out of that first meeting, we'll have a follow-up meeting on August 7th, same time, same place. I would prefer as many people as possible to come in person, as it'll be easier to get through our agenda, but we'll probably make this Zoom meeting optional in case people are traveling who still want to join (or don't feel comfortable being in person).

There are three separate categories I would like you to think about, and come up with ideas on; the more the merrier. They are: Field Trips, Fundraising Events, and Meetings. Here is an example - a small subset of ideas I've been contemplating myself. I'll note that none of these are set in stone; they're just ideas for the next calendar year.

Field Trips First Saturday of the Month

• Photography Scavenger Hunt

  • Go to a location and create an itemized list of things or themes members photograph.

  • Following Monday meeting have members share images they took related to the itemized list

• Photo Relay

  • First person takes a photo, then the next person takes a photo that somehow connects or relates to the first photo, and so on. The relay can be based on theme, color, shape or any other aspect.

  • Following meeting discuss relay

• Neighborhood Documentary

  • Assign different neighborhoods to one or small groups, and each group documents their assigned neighborhood.

  • This could involve capturing the essence of the neighborhood, its unique aspects, daily life, and even interviewing and photographing local residents (with their consent).

  • Following Monday meeting have members share images and stories related to their neighborhood

• “Normal” Trip

  • Choose a park, section of a city/town, and walk to take pictures

Fundraiser Events

• Calendar Sale

  • We could produce a calendar featuring members' photographs.

  • These could be themed (ex., local landscapes, wildlife) or just a selection of members' favorite photos.

  • The calendars could be sold to raise funds for the club.

  • Could be a big success during the holidays

• Themed Photo Books

  • Similar concept to the calendar. We can create a photo book featuring members' work and stories.

• Print Sales

  • Members could donate a few of their best shots to be sold as prints. These could be larger prints suitable for framing, or smaller ones that could be used as postcards. We could even offer a service where customers can order a print of any photo from your club's online gallery.

Meeting ideas

• Some meetings can be based on field trips the prior Saturday (depending on the trip type)

• Editing workshops

  • Have existing members, or speakers, go through their post processing workflows and/or discuss techniques other members may find useful

• Speakers

• Contests / Critiques
