The Judges

Karl Leck

First published in the Pittsburgh Press in 1965, Karl has photographed

as a freelancer on every continent for more than 50 periodicals, many

books and advertisers. He has photographed six summer Olympic

Games from 1976 through 2000. Now retired professionally, he pursues

fine art photography juried shows, gallery exhibits and teaching. He is

currently Print Director of the Delaware Photographic Society and the

Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography.

Laurie Peterson

A commercial photographer and non-silver printmaker, Laurie lives in

Philadelphia. Following a career as an in-house photographer at The

Eastman Kodak Company, she opened her own commercial business.

Currently, she teaches non-silver photography at The University of The

Arts and runs gum bichromate workshops. Her work is in collections of

The Eastman School of Music and other institutions, as well as many

private collections. She is also featured in a soon-to-be-released book.

Barbara Warren

Barbara is a local photographer whose images have taken numerous

awards in juried art shows, including several top awards in the Phillips

Mill Annual Juried Photography Show, Perkins Center of the Arts

Photography 35 show, the Marsh juried Photography Show, the Robert

Ransley Juried Art Show, and Chairman’s Award at the Philadelphia

Sketch Club. She was published in Black and White Magazine as a

* * * * * * *

Each judge viewed all 235 entries entirely in one viewing, divided by

category, separately and independently from the other judges, and rated

each entry anonymously on its merit within its category with a score

from 1-33 points. No judge had any influence upon another since they

were scheduled at different times. Points were totaled after the final

judging, determining standings, with 99 points as the highest possible

score. Best of Show is the highest scoring print overall.

Kirsten Becker of Churchville Nature Center chose the Director’s

Award independently from any scoring. The contest Coordinators

likewise selected the Chairmen’s, Ernie Volpe, Tony DiMattio, and

Creative Achievement awards independently.
